OVERVIEW OF THE CONVENTION

THE HOTEL

The Convention will be headquartered at the Marriott Hotel in Windsor, CT with a free a shuttle bus ride from and to Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, CT. To reserve your room be sure to call 800-228-9290 or at the hotel at 860-688-7500 and ask for the 2018 NCA Conference Group Rate.

A King size bed room or two Queen Bed rooms are $139.00 per night plus tax for one or two people. The fee includes buffet breakfasts.

Registration information will be posted on the website and mailed to NCA members in early 2018.

During the convention, we will visit four carousels in Rhode Island, four carousels in Connecticut and three carousels in Western, MA plus two museums and one private collection.

OPENING NIGHT September 12, 2018

The Evening will begin with dinner for all registrants in Springfield, MA followed by a welcoming and social time at the Marriott Hotel and the Round About Faire.

GENERAL PROGRAM (three days of bus trips to carousels/sites)

Following a nice Buffet Breakfast each morning at the Marriott, we will board buses for the visitations to carousels, museums and a private collection. All meals and snacks will be provided. Educational events will be interspersed throughout the entire convention.

  • Crescent Park Carousel (Looff, 1895) in Riverside, RI
  • Slater Park Carousel (Looff, 1895) in Pawtucket, RI
  • Atlantic Beach Carousel (Herschell-Spillman Frame, 1915, with Illions figures) in Westerly, RI
  • Watch Hill Carousel (Dare,1867) in Westerly, RI
  • Light House Point Carousel (Murphy Bros.,1916, with Carmel and Looff figures) in New Haven, CT.
DAY 2. C0NNECTICUT DAY September 14, 2018
  • Sonny's Carousel (PTC #72,1925) in Somers, CT
  • Bushnell Park Carousel (Stein and Goldstein, 1914) in Hartford, CT
  • The Arnold Chase Collection of Band Organs, Orchestrians, Pin Ball Machines and more in West Hartford, CT
  • Lake Compounce Park (Murphy Brothers, 1893, with Looff, Carmel, Stein & Goldstein figures) in Bristol, CT
  • The New England Carousel Museum in Bristol, CT.
DAY 3. WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS DAY September 15, 2018
  • Holyoke Merry-Go Round (PTC # 80, 1927) in Holyoke, MA
  • Six Flags New England Carousel (Mangells-Illions, 1909 ) in Agawam, MA
  • Berkshire Carousel (Carvings modeled after three styles and 20 major Golden Age Carvers, on a 1928 Herschell Frame) in Pittsfield, MA
  • The Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge MA
DAY 4. FINAL DAY September 16, 2018 (at the Marriott Hotel)
  • General Meeting of the membership of NCA and Closing
  • Optional Area Trips to be arranged with the Convention Co-Chairs
