NCAID0141 Illions Jumper

The NCA Carousel Identification Project on this page was completed on 03/18/10

The Request:

I purchased a carousel horse 20 years ago. I spoke to a wood carver at the LA County fair once. I described the horse to him as being full wooden horse, real horse hair tail. He seemed very familiar with the style of horse. I was told that it was from the carousel at Long Beach Pike. How can I determine where this horse originated? Someone has tried to repaint it and 1/2 of one of the back legs is missing. Other wise it is fully intact. It has a beautiful brass stand and brass spiral pole cover.

The NCA Conclusion:

Your horse is an Illions jumper circa 1905 - 1910 from the carving shop of Marcus Illions. At this time we do not believe your horse is from the Long Beach Pike carousel. Can you provide any additional information where you purchased the figure? This could help us determine the carousel your figure was from.
