The NCA Proudly Presents:
Luna Park Gallopers
Luna Park
Sydney, Australia, New South Wales
Built circa 1900
Presentation courtesy of Victor Hugo

This carousel called Commander Baldocks Galloping Horses and Racing Cockerels Carousel was constructed in the late nineteenth century. The carousel was brought to Australia in the early 1990s by Craig Robson. It was restored and modernized over a five-year period. Horse hair tails were handcrafted in Adelaide from original drawings and fairground artist Mark Gill was flown in from the UK to paint the animals and decorative panels

The carousel retains its original steam engine (although electricity is used to power the ride), and is accompanied by an 89-key, 1904 Gavioli organ. The carousel features 33 animals – cockerels and horses. Each is richly carved and able to seat two riders. It also features two beautiful carriages.
