This unique five-abreast carrousel rides in the Disneyland park near Paris, France. All 16 of the outer-row horses along with one spare horse were designed by American carver Joe Leonard, and were carved by Joe and four staff members. The finished horses were sent to Florida where they were painted by Disneyland artists before being shipped to France. All 17 of these hand-carved horses are armored horses. They measure 7 feet long by 6 1/2 feet tall and weigh 250 pounds each, making them some of the largest carrousel horses in operation! The carrousel's antique chariots were built by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company around 1917. They originally appeared on PTC #46, which was acquired by Disney in the 1960s. Disney removed the chariots and converted PTC #46 to a five row machine with all jumping horses, and then restored the chariots for Le Carrousel de Lancelot between 1990 and 1991. Both chariots are decorated in 23-karat gold leaf, copper leaf and aluminium leaf. 70 fiberglass horses ride in the inner four rows. These horses are replicas of 16 horses found on Cinderella's Golden Carousel at Walt Disney World, Florida.
