The National Carousel Association mourns the loss of our long time friend, Charles Walker.

Charles passed away suddenly at the age of 66 on Monday, October 8, 2007. A founding member of the NCA, Charles also served as the NCA's Conservation Chairman and as the representative of the NCA to the IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions).

Charles loved trains, theatre, music, gadgets, band organs, carousels, old mills, art, and history. While the rest of us were riding the carousels at our tech conferences, he was always hard to find because he would spend his time tinkering with the band organ, looking at the carousel's mechanics, or riding the miniature trains.

PTC #39 at Lake Winnepesaukah was his baby. Over the years he spent many hours maintaining this carousel to keep it in top operating condition. In Charles' memory, this carousel will be our Carousel of the Month for November, 2007.

With a lifetime passion for the American carousel and its music, he will be missed by carousel friends, owners, operators, and band organ enthusiasts.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in his name to the NCA Preservation Fund.
