The 49th Annual NCA Convention
September 14-18, 2022
The 2022 convention of the National Carousel Association will be headquartered
in the San Francisco Bay area of Northern California on September
14 to 18, 2022. Our headquarters hotel will be the Best Western Plus Grosvenor
located at the San Francisco Airport. We will visit six classic wooden carousels
during the convention.
In addition to the actual convention there are numerous opportunities
to add to your Northern California experience and visit the many
attractions and historic landmarks the area offers. Special discounted
hotel room rates will also be available to you prior to and after the
convention.
How to make your hotel room reservations
We have secured special NCA Convention Group guest room rates at
our headquarters hotel; the Best Western Plus Grosvenor. The special
rates start Sunday September 11th through Sunday night September
18th. The discounted rates are $129.00 plus tax Monday through
Thursday nights and $89.00 plus tax Friday, Saturday and Sunday
nights. The Guest Room rates include the hotel provided breakfast each
morning.

All the available dates will be displayed at the top of the page, click on
the edit button located in the upper right-hand section of the page and
set for the dates you want. The displayed room rates will be an average
for the nights you have selected, but you will be charged the rates
indicated above. You can also call the hotel direct at: 650 873-3200 and
ask for the National Carousel Association rate. There is an additional
fee of $9.00 per day if you have your own vehicle.

To register for the convention, print pages 3 and 4 of of this registration packet, fill in the blanks, and send your payment to the address shown in the registration packet.

The Carousel History Puzzle
-
A day dedicated to a discussion and gathering of carousel history is being added to
this year's conference with presentations beginning at 9:00am Wednesday
September 14th in the headquarters hotel. The discussion and presentations will be
headed by Tobin Fraley who brings a wealth of carousel history to the discussion.
Anyone who has information, photos, and artifacts on carousel history is invited to
attend and join the discussion with tables available to display all contributions to the
presentations. A scanner will be available to digitally save all information shared,
with the end goal to secure and share in a readily accessible format.
Carousel History is a jigsaw puzzle and the goal is to begin filling in a few of the missing
pieces.

Presentations will begin with carousels created prior to 1865, followed by all carvers,
manufactures, painters, builders and those who assembled them through the
Golden Age of carousels. Everyone with carousel history to contribute and those
interested in the history are encouraged to attend.

It is recognized not all pieces of this puzzle will be found on this one day, but it is
hoped we are starting an ongoing endeavor to be carried on for years to come.

- After The Convention: Lise Liepman, Carousel Artist is having an Open House to tour her Carousel Art Studio between 12:00pm and 5:00pm. Also Kate and Shawn Murphy are having an Open House between 12:00pm and 5:00pm to view their private Carousel Collection. Both are located in the East Bay area and you will need to secure your own transportation. If you are interested, addresses for both can be provided.
